From the entire 24 hours of a day roughly half of it is night and just like the day has her own characteristic, temperament, and climate so does the night. As a perfumer I follow the philosophy that perfumes are best composed at the very time they are intended for, and so we composed AL LAYL at night.
From the Arabic meaning ‘the night’ AL LAYL is a fragrant melody depicting the songs of the Sultan’s banquet, the hum of the candles burning at the desk of the laurate as he puts pen to paper writing to his hearts content, a song that shares the longing sighs of a thousand promises made.
The night is a time of calm and collection, a time of rest and privacy. The night unfolds with many chapters and stories. How many men have put pen to paper to write? and write they did from the beginning of the creation of man to the belly button of a whale, all in the night.
No perfumer can claim mastery until they have composed at least one night fragrance nor can any fragrance collection be complete without it. Our tradition boasts many fragrances composed specifically for the night and it is arguably one of the most challenging compositions. The night cannot be painted with citruses or florals nor does it entertain the conventional notes pyramid. The night is the majestic mix of cool breeze under bright stars, the sensual roaring warmth of the hearth, the scent of the fire place mixing with the condensation on a window looking out to a frozen lake.

AL LAYL is perfume mastery. A painting of the most difficult of images that you need light to perceive but it is night and there is no light. At first scent, you inhale and smile in wonder because you are lost for words and you don’t know how to describe it. How does the moonlight smell? But you can smell it and sense it. How does the cool night breeze feel? You smell its ambergrisy coolness but are then wrapped by the warmth of sensual fur and cashmere wool, the warm embrace in the cold winter night, the pen upon the paper and pages of writing…just as you become comfortable your night begins – This is your night, The Night, AL LAYL
